Red Pine's Lankavatara soetra

Sinds D.T. Suzuki zich heeft gewijd aan het vertalen van de Lankavatara soetra (gedeeltelijk uitgegeven in D. Goddard's Buddhist bible) wacht menigeen op een grondiger en completer uitgave. Goed nieuws daarom toen Red Pine vorig jaar aankondigde hiermee bezig te zijn.

UPDATE 5 maart 2012:
inmiddels is The Lankavatara Sutra, vertaald door Red Pine (Bill Porter), verkrijgbaar.

Op een webforum liet Red Pine op 11 mei 2011 het volgende weten over de voortgang van deze vertaalklus:

Manuscript was submitted to Counterpoint in April. Due out in hardback next January.

The translation is based on the Chinese of Gunabhadra (with references to variant readings by Bodhiruchi, Shikshananda, and the Sanskrit) and does not include the "Sagathakam". It should run about 400 pages, sixty percent text, forty percent notes and commentary. It is currently being checked for the more obvious gaffs by Paul Harrison at Stanford and Dan Lusthaus at Harvard.

I include the first chapter, which I have rendered based mostly on Bodhiruchi and Shikshananda but also on the Sanskrit. Its a composite and begins the book, which then segues into the Gunabhadra text with chapter two.
